The day has finally arrived! A year and a half after the Supreme Court decided the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, millions of uninsured Americans finally are able to secure health insurance starting January 1, 2014. The road to full implementation has been long and complex with thousands of regulations and technical challenges to overcome.
On the last day of 2013, Marilyn Tavenner, head of CMS, announced that “over 6 million people have been enrolled in Marketplace or Medicaid coverage since October 1, and will work to give millions more Americans the peace of mind that comes with health security in the months ahead.” Enrollment totals at these levels reinforce the sustainability of the exchange marketplaces. Plus, the 6 million enrollees do not include the many thousands of under 26-year-olds who can continue on their parents’ health policy.
This historic law is finally working!
