One of my favorite parts about Mother’s Day is reflecting on the journeys of the young women Child, Home & Community (CHC) has traveled with as they grow into loving, knowledgeable mothers.
This Mother’s Day, I’d like to share some of their promises to their children:
I promise to always be there for you and take care of you. I promise to cherish the moments that we have, to be your rock, to love you and never let anyone or anything hurt you. I promise to pick you up when you’re down, and to go through the highs and the lows with you. I promise you, you will never be alone and even when you think you are, you’re not. I promise to always love you to pieces.
I promise you a happy childhood. I will always want the best for you. I promise to be the best mom, to provide for you and do the best I can for you. I promise to be here for you whenever you need me.
I promise you: love, protection, health, shelter, security, hope, open arms, to always be there, laughs, smiles, giggles, to always care, and good times. I promise to always lead you in the right direction.
I promise to love you and care for you. I promise to respect you and protect you from any harm. I will always believe in you and meet all your needs.
I promise I will love you and care for you. I will pick you up every time you are crying. I will give you nice bubble baths. I promise to be the best mommy I can be to you. I promise to give all I can to you, to take you out for long walks, and play with you whenever you want me to.
From the promises above, it’s clear that CHC’s young parents want the same things for their children that any parent wants: love, nutrition, education, safety … and a caring, supportive community.
Thanks to Child, Home & Community’s childbirth and newborn care classes, school based programs, home visits, fatherhood programs, intensive case management and evening parenting programs, these young parents are provided the caring supportive community they need to survive and thrive to further the mission of CHC: “To build a better future for children, through education, support and advocacy.”
