The League of women Voters of Bucks County is working to ensure that every registered voter’s voice is heard on November 4th. Perhaps you are thinking that this is an “off-year” election, featuring contests of little importance that are not really worthy of your time. If so, think again!
On this year’s ballot will be the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, your State Representative, your United States Congressional Representative and the State Senators of several Bucks County Districts. The decisions made by these public servants have great impact on your daily life.
For example, the level and allocation of State funding to public school districts may impact the amount of property taxes you will be asked to pay and also influence the quality of your children’s education.
The size of State contributions to finance our public colleges may determine whether student tuition and fees will stay level or increase.
Pennsylvania maintains more miles of State roads than New York and New Jersey combined, and if our roads and bridges are not safe and drivable, businesses and jobs will go elsewhere.
The extraction and transport of energy is an important sector in Pennsylvania’s economy, but if regulation and inspection of this industry are inadequate, our environmental quality will suffer.
The State’s administration of health care programs such as CHIP and Medicaid impacts the ability of thousands of Pennsylvanians to access medical care.
In Congress, our elected Representative may well be asked to vote on whether or not our Nation will go to war.
Still think that this election is inconsequential?
Your Vote is Your Voice.
Make plans to vote this November. If you are unable to go to your voting precinct on the 4th, plan ahead: apply for an absentee ballot by October 28th and return your voted ballot to the Board of Elections by October 31st.
Here’s a special challenge to everyone who votes in person on Election Day: take a “selfie” on
your way out of your polling place (so as not to delay other voters) and post it on your Facebook page and/or email it to your friends and family. When you do, remind everyone to Vote – it’s that important! Our Bucks County League would like to see your picture too, so please email it to us at our address: email@example.com.
We want YOU to vote! It’s the right thing to do, because voting is all about YOU!
