Maggie Leigh Groff’s involvement with Planned Parenthood began as a volunteer, just out of college, following in her mother’s footsteps – her mother was a board member and more for the Bucks County affiliate in its earliest years. Maggie joined the staff of Planned Parenthood Association of Bucks County (PPABC) as a counselor, grew into the position of managing and training counseling staff and continued working in patient services while attending graduate school. She received her Masters in Social Work from Temple University.
Her work with patients motivated Maggie to become more involved in public policy. Maggie developed a Public Affairs Department at PPABC, one of the most effective in Pennsylvania. While at PPABC, Maggie established and managed the most successfully adjunct 501(c)(4) organization in the state, which augments Planned Parenthood’s political clout and effectiveness. Over the years, Maggie has been a leader within the statewide Planned Parenthood public policy organization, a coordinated effort of all the Pennsylvania affiliates.
In 2009, Maggie joined the staff of Planned Parenthood Southeastern PA (PPSP) as Vice President of External Affairs. PPSP and PPABC now collaborate to combine public policy departments, saving resources and enhancing effectiveness. She oversees the advocacy efforts of PPSP, which mobilize and increase community support for Planned Parenthood issues and services, including grassroots efforts, communication with lawmakers, media contacts and the volunteer program.
